A photo shared online shows "High School Musical" alum Zac Efron with new pounds of sculpted muscular bulk for the role of wrestling legend Kevin Von Erich.
The photo of Efron's impressive new physique was posted to Twitter by Complex, Men's Health reported, saying that in the pic "Efron is in amazing shape, rocking some jacked arms and a defined chest on top of the shredded six-pack abs which he keeps as a mainstay."
UK newspaper the Daily Mail shared photos of Efron clad only in a towel and sporting a "bowl haircut" to more closely resemble Von Erich, who is the subject of the Sean Durkin biopic "The Iron Claw" – so titled for the signature move Von Erich used in the ring.
Efron covers the October issue of Men's Health. The actor contrasted his current role with what he endured to get into "Baywatch" shape for the 2017 comedy.
"I started to develop insomnia, and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time," Efron said of the diuretics-heavy prep work he did for the earlier film, adding, "that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering."
Efron said that the "Baywatch" look was less than satisfactory. "There's just too little water in the skin. Like, it's fake; it looks CGI'd," he said. A healthier alternative, he suggested, is to "have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat."
The new film "is a drama based on the Von Erich family, who created a dynasty that made a huge impact on the sport in their heyday in the 1960s until tragedy struck, again, and again," with three of the family's six sons – several of whom followed in their father's footsteps – dying by their own hands. Another son died at age six in an accident, and another died at "25 of a suspected painkiller overdose during a tour with All Japan Pro Wrestling on February 10, 1984," the Mail said.
Efron has not yet shared his new look on his IG, but the account nonetheless boasts plenty of impressive snaps and videos. Check out some of them below.
