Julianne Moore has signed on to an upcoming film version of the popular Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen," Deadline reports.

Moore is set to take the role of Evan Hansen's mother. The film will be directed by Stephen Chbosky and stars Ben Platt in the title role. Platt's performance as Evan Hansen garnered a Tony Award, notes Broadway.com.

The plot concerns a teenager named Evan Hansen who writes letters to himself as a therapeutic exercise to combat anxiety. One of his letters ends up in the possession of a school mate who subsequently commits suicide; his parents believe that the letter was written by their dead son to Evan.

Steven Levenson wrote the book for the stage musical and has adapted the play for the screen. The music and lyrics are by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who are reportedly writing new music for the film.
