Wonder Woman

She's a wonder! It's taken more than three decades to bring "Wonder Woman" back to life! The last time that the enduring DC Comics property had the fortune of blazing a path across popular culture was the short-lived 1970s television series which turned its star Lynda Carter into an icon as she battled the forces of evil and defended the American Way as the legendary Amazon warrior in her fashionable boots, tiara, and bustier!

As they say, since then Wonder Woman has come a long sister! Carter's version of the superheroine portrayed her dedication to truth, justice and especially hope for all humankind - and the original comic book has evolved through its 75-year history to a present-day and most capable combatant who can play with the big guns and has proven her mettle against even the heaviest hitters. That idea was most idolized in 2016s "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

In that blockbuster the role went to relative-unknown Gal Gadot. The actress had proven her credibility in action hits like the "Fast & the Furious" franchise and certainly grabbed the attention of filmmakers Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck. It was Snyder's and producing partner Deborah Snyder that ultimately realized that their search for the Amazing Amazon had struck gold with Gadot. As soon as the actress wrapped on that film, she went to work on her solo debut.

"Wonder Woman" as a big-budget film has experienced several monumental and often disappointing starts-and-stops over the years. Joss Whedon, the creator behind the hit "Buffy the Vampire Slayer' had prepared to deliver on the promise of a film, but just as she was putting the cast together and especially searching for his coveted Princess Diana, the project was shelved. Ironically, Whedon has had a chance to revisit the heroine completing work on "Justice League".

Gadot's appearance in that blockbuster synched her in the minds of audiences as a proud inheritor of the mantle and solidified her place as the third part of the "trinity" movie fans had waited patiently to see. Under the watchful and careful eye of director Patty Jenkins "Wonder Woman" achieved its glory and became a certified critical success with critics and fans alike! Now the triumph has come home on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD!

Early on many fans expressed disappointment to learn that there wouldn't be an "Extended Version" of the film, which was anticipated given the studio track record with DC Comics films adaptations, but Jenkins famously admitted that there wasn't anything (really) left on the cutting room floor! How's that for efficient? Instead, the Blu-ray disc is packed with more than 2 hours of bonus content, including a "Bonus Scene" not seen in theaters.

Additional special features bring the audience onto the set on a personal journey with the film's director Patty Jenkins detailing the behind-the-scenes details that were necessary to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen. There are also some great extended explorations of some scenes and a truly giddy look at the cast letting their guards down on the Gag Reel, but most of all there are some special and significant looks at Wonder Woman as a cultural icon!
