Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)

JC Alvarez READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The anticipation for what had been billed as the brawl of the century made a huge dent on the box-office. But with fans that had been waiting to see these two icons take it to the mat and were disappointed, perhaps they'll find some vindication in the release of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)" which is available on Blu-ray and Digital HD. This release is the edit that the film's director Zack Snyder had perhaps been hoping to release in theaters, but clocking in at just under 3-hours this is one cataclysmic crisis event best viewed at home.

Snyder's ability to tell stories of truly monumental scale made him the perfect candidate to continue to realize the cinematic world of the DC Comics characters, but after the mixed praise "Man of Steel" received, fans kept their enthusiasm in check when "BvS" premiered. They can now revisit it in the "Ultimate Edition" which incorporates 30 more minutes into the film, making it a more complete experience than the one released in theaters - and that's the best part!

The film isn't miraculously better than before! Unless you're a true fan of the genre, "BvS" fell pretty flat, but the "Ultimate Edition" helps to round out and fill in some blanks that left many audience members scratching their heads. Some the characters' motivations are better since they include why Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) is hellbent on taking down the Man of Steel, and how the movie's main villain Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) manipulates all the players for the film's climatic showdown which introduces Wonder Woman making her big-screen appearance.

The 3-disc set is super-packed as well. The "Ultimate Edition" of the film with 30 more minutes intercut into the movie is on one Blu-ray disc. For the purist at heart, a second Blu-ray disc has the Theatrical Version and over 2 hours of bonus content. The third disc features the Theatrical Version of the movie on DVD, and there's also the Digital HD copy so you can watch the movie on any of your favorite mobile devices.

The bonus features elaborate on the backstory of the film's three lead heroes, with a very special celebratory look at Wonder Woman and the character's 75th anniversary as one of comic's leading ladies. Several behind-the-scenes documentaries will thrill fans who want a closer look at the film's iconic sets including the Batcave, as well as detailed looks at Batman's arsenal like the Batmobile and Wonder Woman's ferocious training. For the serious fanatic, there's also a preview of DC Entertainment's entire cinematic line-up which will bring to the big screen more favorite heroes.

For the Comic-Con cosplayer "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is an epic start to some more comic book adventures come to life. Otherwise The "Ultimate Edition" isn't going to win over any new fans who got blown away by the original release - still, it is kind of cool to see the Caped Crusader try to take down the Metropolis Marvel! Throw in some of the Amazing Amazon it's a large popcorn night waiting to happen!
