Seth Meyers and Ted Cruz Spar, Debate Gay Marriage on 'Late Night'

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz stopped by "Late Night with Seth Meyers" Monday night to talk politics with the former "Saturday Night Live" Weekend Update anchor, discussing a number of topics, including Obamacare and gay marriage.

During the interview, Cruz talked about his Obamacare filibuster and said that Obamacare is unpopular. This sparked host Seth Meyers to bring up same-sex marriage and a new poll that revealed that support for the issue is at an all time high - 59 percent of Americans and 40 percent of Republicans now back marriage. Meyers asked Cruz if now is a good time to back a measure that would allow gay marriage.

"Listen, I'm a constitutionalist," Cruz said. "For over 200 years, marriage has been a question for the states. Now, personally, I believe in traditional marriage between one man and one woman, but if you want to change the marriage laws, the way to do it constitutionally is convince your fellow citizens, go to the state legislature, and change it. It shouldn't be the federal government or unelected judges imposing their own definition of marriage - we should instead respect our constitutional system."

But Meyers quickly retorted back.

"You know, I read the Constitution this morning, and I'm not sure you're right on all that stuff," he said.

While the audience's reaction was mixed to both what Cruz and Meyers said about same-sex marriage, I bet Stefon was cheering at home for his boo!

Cruz also talked about his "world on fire" remarks he made in New Hampshire last weekend. Footage surfaced this week showing a girl taking him saying "the whole world's on fire" literally.

He told Meyers the girl now thinks of him as a fireman and joked kids like him because he read Dr. Seuss during his Obamacare filibuster in 2013.
