Chicago Fire - Season Two

Michael Cox READ TIME: 2 MIN.

In November 2012, WGN-TV of Chicago announced a plane crash in their morning news and showed live footage for a few minutes before realizing that it was not a real plane crash, but filming for an episode of "Chicago Fire." Shot on location in Chicago, this television serial, another in a line of successful spaghetti crime dramas from Primetime Emmy Award-winning executive producer Dick Wolf ("Law & Order"), knows how to make a scene.

It's also a show that also knows how to create an action sequence. Imagine a car teetering on the edge of a building just about to fall onto another car in the street. The car that is about to fall has a passenger inside who can't get out, and the driver of the car on the ground is unconscious and can't move the vehicle. These types of action sequences happen two or three times per episode.

As Season Two begins, Firehouse 51 is still fractured from the death of Firefighter Andrew Darden, and the loss keeps echoing through all of their lives. It's Lieutenant Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) who must really step up to bat this season, taking responsibility for Darden's two sons when his widow is incarcerated for drunk driving.

There's also the issue of Gail McLeod (beautifully played by the forcefully charismatic Michelle Forbes). She's breathing down Battalion Chief Wallace Boden's (Eamonn Walker) neck, threatening to close down one of the city's firehouses. When Boden won't bow down to her bureaucratic number crunching tactics, she tries to overthrow him and install his former colleague Benny Severide (Treat Williams) as the chief of Battalion 25.

Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) must not only decide where his loyalties lie, but also stop a dangerous arsonist who seems to be targeting him personally. Curious about the young lady who's hanging out with his father, Severide discovers he has a long lost half-sister who he tries to hunt down after she's kidnapped.

Paramedic Leslie Elizabeth Shay (Lauren German) and Paramedic in Charge Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) have a falling out spurned by Shay's overwhelming guilt over a man's suicide. Shay's downward spiral leads her into the arms of a sexy, but shifty, new girlfriend. There's bound to be trouble.

Though it seems all adrenaline, testosterone and sexy lesbian drama, this firehouse is fundamentally a loyal family of men and women who put themselves on the line every day to protect the city.

Bonus features include a slickly produced Behind the Scenes look at each of the episodes, a mini episode from the Digital Series, "I Am a Firefighter," the Pilot Episode of "Chicago P.D." and the Crossover Episode between the two series.
