Burger King Criticized for Proud Whopper

Burger King officials unveiled their new pro-LGBT Whopper burger this week to celebrate Pride. While it initially was well received, some are slamming the gay-friendly marketing move, according to Gay Star News.

The limited Proud Whopper is currently being sold at Burger Kings in San Francisco for one week only, but the response to the fast food giant's LGBT burger has been mostly positive - when the story was posted to EDGE's Facebook page, it received over 1,500 likes and about 420 shares, with several supportive comments.

"Go Burger King for actually doing something for Pride," one user wrote. "Thank you Burger King," another said.

Despite the positive feedback, there is always an anti-gay backlash. GSN notes Twitter users have taken issue with the promotional gay Whopper and some have even called for a boycott against Burger King.

"The fag burger!!" one Twitter user wrote

"@BurgerKing boycott! Don't ram your liberal views on us! Will not be eating there till you change wrapper," another said.

"I'm boycotting them for sure! #BoycottBurgerKing #NoProudBurger," a Twitter user echoed.

"Done with @BurgerKing The rainbow wrapper went too far. We will no longer be eating there till you change this rainbow wrapper! #Boycott," said another.

"#BOYCOTT BURGER KING ! ENOUGH OF OBAMA'S GAY PRIDE AGENDA !" another tweet reads.
