Is Eating Vegan a Drag? Ask Mistress Ginger

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Mistress Ginger is a saucy showgirl who knows that anyone can make and enjoy fabulous plant-based food whether it's a longtime vegan who wears a bunch of kale as a badge of honor or a burly truck driver who doesn't know a radish from a rutabaga. The Mistress - who has been using a vegan diet to fuel her singing and dancing for more than a dozen years - is eager to share her fabulous recipes created to encourage her entourage of "friends" into opening their minds to the plant-based paradise that awaits.

"Mistress Ginger Cooks" features gorgeous color photos of Ginger preparing her divine creations accompanied by instructions spiced with her bawdy, good-natured humor. Beneath its audacious exterior is a healthy cookbook with user-friendly recipes, dietary recommendations, tips on planning balanced meals, and suggestions on putting together knock-out themed menus.

Recognizing that many of her readers have busy, fast-paced lives, the book is designed to make a whole foods plant-based diet blend with the modern lifestyle. Swoop-Me-Up Smoothie, French Kissed Toast, Blueberry Stud Muffins, Yam Wedgies, Cheeky Spread, Flaming Stir-Fry, and Pound-Me Cake are just a few of the delicious recipes that are easy to whip up and sure to please any palate.

A mutual acquaintance advised Ginger to submit her book proposal to Book Publishing Company whose genre is books on healthy living and plant-based cooking and nutrition. Ginger believes that a vegan diet is not only kind to animals, but supports the well-being of the planet and human health. She also loves the power of changing the world one bite at a time. But she's adamant that this book is not just for vegans but for anyone willing to embrace meatless meals more often.

Mistress Ginger debuted in the cabaret spectacle "Broadway Bound... and Gagged" in 2006, followed by "The Mistress Ginger Junkyard Spectacular," "Bedroom Eyes," "Spell No. 2," "Geek in the Pink," and "Don't Rain on My Panda Bear." To coincide with the release of the book, Ginger has created a new cabaret show called "Mistress Ginger Cooks: Love Songs to Turn Up the Heat."

Mistress Ginger is the stage persona for Justin Leaf, a graduate of Julliard with a degree in dance performance. Justin has years of experience as a professional ballet dancer, is an award-winning choreographer, and is a certified yoga instructor.
