Will The Next Governor of Maine be Gay?
Bobby McGuire READ TIME: 1 MIN.
PORTLAND, Maine -- The congressman who wants to unseat Maine Gov. Paul LePage says his personal life has never factored into his jobs at a paper mill, in the Maine Legislature or on Capitol Hill. But now his private life isn't so private.
Rep. Mike Michaud (MEE'-shoh) revealed in an op-ed this week that he's gay in response to "whisper campaigns, insinuations and push-polls" that were dogging his gubernatorial campaign.
Most people in Michaud's life didn't know he was gay - not even his mom.
He said he told his mother and his sister that he was gay just hours before his office sent out the op-ed. He said he hopes that his campaign can focus now on the issues.
