WNBA Legend Accused of Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend

A former Women's National Basketball Association star has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after an altercation with her ex-girlfriend, ABC News reports.

Chamique Holdsclaw, 35, was arrested Thursday on two counts of aggravated assault and has been ordered not to contact her ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Lacy, 29, who claims Holdslaw hit her car with a baseball bat and fired a gun inside the vehicle.

Tracy Flanagan of the Fulton County Georgia Sherriff's Office charged the former University of Tennessee basketball player with first-degree criminal damage to property, second-degree criminal damage and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Holdsclaw is currently being held in jail on a $100,000 bond and will not be released until she is given an ankle monitor, the article notes.

"She will have to wait her turn. There's no express line," Flanagan told ABC News.

Atlanta police issued an arrest warrant for the athlete on Tuesday after she allegedly had an altercation with Lacy, who is also a former WNBA player. Holdsclaw allegedly followed her ex from her workout to a friend's home. The police report states after Lacy pulled her vehicle over, Holdsclaw approached her with a baseball bat and smashed the driver's side window and then the rear passenger window. Holdsclaw then pulled out a gun inside the car, fired it, then fled the scene. Police say they found bullet shells inside Lacy's car.

"I want to thank my family, friends, fans and Shock family for their concern during this difficult time. I have never felt more love from my fans in supporting me," Lacy, who was not hurt, said in a statement.

On Thursday Holdsclaw turned herself into police but before surrendering herself, she tweeted, "Everything is a lesson learned. We all make decisions good and bad. As long as we grow from them that's all that matters. #lessonlearned" on Nov. 13.

Holdsclaw, who will appear in court on Nov. 30, is an accomplished athlete. She was a six-time WNBA All-Star, National Collegiate Athletic Association champion and gold medalist in the 2000 Olympic Games. Her autobiography, "Breaking Through: Beating the Odds Shot After Shot," came out earlier this year.
