Showtime is developing a limited series based on Joan Rivers, and Variety is reporting that Emmy nominee Kathryn Hahn has been cast as the late comedic icon.

Hahn will serve as an executive producer on "The Comeback Girl" along with out writer/director Greg Berlanti ("Love, Simon," "You"), who will write and direct the series. Cosmo Carlson, who wrote the show as a spec script, will also be a writer on the show as well as an executive producer.

The show "is primarily set in the aftermath of the cancellation of 'The Late Show,' which coincided with Rivers' husband (and 'Late Show' producer) Edgar Rosenberg's death by suicide," Variety writes.

The log line for "The Comeback Girl" reads: "Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne...and then it all fell apart. THE COMEBACK GIRL is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon."

Hahn made a splash earlier this year for her role in the Disney+ Marvel series "WandaVision," where she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, but lost to "Mare of Easttown" star Julianne Nicholson.

Rivers died in 2014 at age 81, days after having a routine endoscopy on her throat.
