With a series of three photos that seemed to briefly break the internet last week, Shawn Mendes and Tommy Hilfiger announced a multi-year partnership that seeks to light the way for a more sustainable future in the fashion world. Recently, the brand outfitted Mendes with his sexy Disney prince-style outfit for this year's Met Gala, which came just a week prior to this collaboration being announced.

This initiative, called "Play It Forward," begins this summer with a "Classics Reborn" campaign. The campaign will include styles from the brand's "1985 Program" collection (named after the year the iconic American brand was founded) which will be available starting May 16. Not only will the polos in the collection be made with organic cotton, but the sustainable denim will be made using 20% post-consumer recycled cotton, which uses fewer resources during production.

"Shawn's not only a multitalented musician — he also represents a new generation of future-makers who understand the need for action," said Tommy Hilfiger via a press release shared by Audacy. "By joining forces with Shawn to learn, share, and innovate, we can build upon what we've already achieved and take our sustainability journey to the next level. While we recognize we still have a long way to go, together we can build even more awareness to make a positive, lasting impact."

Incredibly, "Play It Forward" is starting by donating $1 million in order to offset the environmental impact of Mendes' upcoming "Wonder: The World Tour." What's more, the majority of Mendes' wardrobe for the tour will consist of more sustainable designs using things like liability and deadstock vintage Tommy Hilfiger fabrics. Specific recipients of the $1 million donation will be announced in the coming weeks.

Next Spring, Mendes will co-design a capsule for the iconic brand. "I've always been inspired by Tommy and the iconic brand he built, and I'm excited to share our journey together with my fans," said Mendes in a statement. "Everyone has a role to play in creating a more sustainable future and I'm inspired to see what we can achieve. I look forward to learning from each other, exploring how creative reimagination can have a positive effect on the fashion industry, and sharing what living more sustainably means to me."

While Mendes' photos were spicy enough on their own, the three-time Grammy nominee also just dropped a red-hot music video for his cover of Bruce Springsteen's 1984 megahit "Dancing in the Dark," driving home the idea of "Classics Reborn," this summer's Mendes-Hilfiger campaign.
